A young women came into my office and asked me about envelopes. I had to explain to her the concept of postage, addresses, return addresses, and the postal system.
I was only 57% mean. I asked her if she was serious right now, and if she has ever mailed a letter before in her life.
My mind is boggled. Are people really this dumb?
I won't feel good about myself until I do my due diligence. So... here is the basics of sending a letter.
1. Return address: where it is being sent from, and who it should be returned to if for some reason the address turns out to be undeliverable
2. Address: where is it going, to whom and at what location
3. Postage: you got to pay for this shit. This is the part that most people have a problem with. I think it's the entitled generation that thinks something this basic should be a free and inalienable right. Like banking, and the internet.
So assuming this part is clear enough... let's move on to the infinitely more complex scenario: what if you require a response?
"Include a self-addressed stamped envelope, or a business reply envelope."
Clear enough? For some reason, no! So here is a picture to illustrate.
Notice the stamp. And the address... that is coming back to the sender.
It's so basic and straight forward, this person should feel a little dumb right now. I doubt this person will come to me for help again unless she is really desperate, and I am okay with that.
